Vic Gov. to run EV trial

AUSTRALIA’S biggest trial of electric vehicles (EVs) has been announced by the Victorian government to test the impact and benefits of the emerging technology, including demands on the electricity network, as it attempts to steal the march on other states as the Australian EV industry leader.

Update 1 - batteries

I've now got a few ideas of where I want to head and thought I'd write them up.

My basic requirement is to be able to do 100KM/hr so I can drive anywhere in Canberra without being a hazard to traffic, and to be able to drive for at least an hour at 80KM/hr.

Canberra EV discussion list

By the way, it's not obvious from the main pages but you can join the discussion list by using the interface at http://canberraev.org/mailman/listinfo/discussions_canberraev.org.

Hope this helps,

New member, new project

I've recently joined the Canberra EV group because I want to build an electric motorcycle. I'm aiming for something in about the same power range as my current Suzuki G500, although the torque curve differences between petrol and electric motors makes comparing exact kilowatts difficult.

My parts list ideas so far are:

* 2x Mars 48V Brushless DC motor - 5-10kW
* 10x Thunder Sky 200Ah LiFPO4 batteries
* Alltrax AXE4844 controller
* TBS Electronics E-Xpert Pro HV battery gauge

things I know less about but know I want:

* Battery management system
* Charger

Peter's Conversion is a Charade

And a bit of Q and A

Why? We needed a new car. Nothing we could buy had better fuel economy than the car we had over 20 years ago but an electric car could be run entirely on renewable energy via ‘GreenPower’.

Cost to convert? about $20,000; ~$10K for the battery, ~$5K motor and controller, ~$5K bits and pieces.
