Update 3 - the bike

I've now got a donor bike and work can really start!

It's a Yamaha FZR 600 "Fazer" in black.  Thanks to a previous unspecified adventure it has a bit of damage to the left hand side, including dents in the fuel tank, a bit of the engine casing missing exposing the starter motor, and the windscreen and fairing pushed back.  Most of this I can repair; and I was looking for a bike with a damaged motor as being more suitable - I didn't really want to take a running bike off the road.

I've posted a full write-up of my adventures getting the bike on my blog at http://www.mabula.net/tbfw/2010/07/04 - read there for more detail.

I've been a bit lazy and haven't filled in a couple of bits I've bought in the meantime.  I bought a Kelly KBL12401I motor controller, good for 120V and 400A peak (although rumour has it that one shouldn't push it that much once its warmed up), a Kelly DC-DC converter that will take the battery pack voltage and produce 12V at 25A for the lights, indicators, etc., and a bunch of related electronics to build a box that I can plug the motor, controller and stuff into and see how it all works.

Now to get my hands dirty stripping the bike down!
